Our Community Focus

We Truly Want to Make a Difference

Here at Little Monsters Children's Resale Shop, we strive to be an active, responsible member of our community. As a local small business, we believe that incorporating community responsibility into our business plan creates a more loyal customer base and happier employees. We love living in the beautiful Carson Valley area and we want our community to be the best it can be. As such, we always welcome suggestions from our customers regarding community involvement.

Goals For Our Store And Community:

Quite often, we find that the members of our community really do want to do their part to help out. However, it can be difficult to navigate through the maze of needy and greedy people out there in the world and to identify who truly needs help and who is a scam artist. The same goes for larger organizations as well. Some of the non-profit organizations in our community are doing good, making a difference in lives of others, and are working for the betterment of our society. However, some of them are not as socially-responsible as they claim to be. We research organizations before becoming involved with them to ensure that our efforts and the efforts of our supporters are not being expended in vain. We welcome input from our customers about their favorite charities, people they may become aware of who need help, and if they become aware of a company or individual who is acting in a dishonest or fraudulent nature. It is our experience that most people really do want to help their fellow citizen, and people take notice and become aware of who truly needs a hand.

We are passionate about helping families raise happy productive citizens and we firmly believe our little customers are our future. We have high hopes for our community leadership and believe everyone should have a chance at success. We incorporate social responsibility into our business plan as follows:

Build relationships within our community
Naturally, as a kids' store, we have concerns for children's issues, but we also have a soft spot in our hearts for grandparents and animals. We want to support issues and agencies that are supportive of kids and families, the elderly, and groups focused on pet rescue and care. We are always happy to help organizations of this nature including any foster parents and court-appointed special advocates (CASA), the Carson Senior Center, Carson City Humane Society and SPCA, etc.

Get our employees on board
Giving employees an avenue to give back is important to morale and builds a dedicated, inspired team. We feel that when our employees love what they're doing, they do a better job. Volunteering also provides leadership opportunities to our employees, which leads to increased staff performance and emotional fulfillment. All our employees are involved in volunteering and supporting charities which they are personally passionate about.

Let customers know how we're giving back
We want to keep customers informed and in-the-know about our efforts to support our community in the event they would like to participate. We feel it is important to let current and prospective customers know what we are doing and how we are doing it. We encourage you to visit our website often for details and updates on our community plans and programs.

Current Charitable Programs In Place:

Donations
We are not able to buy everything that customers bring to us. Upon their request to donate their items, we give all items away for free to needy people in our community. You will find posts on Facebook “free pages”, “buy, sell, trade, free” pages and “urgent, help needed” pages. We also have needy customers that come in to the store who we give donations to. Some donations go to Ron Wood Center if and when they are available to accept them. A few customers have mentioned charities that might appreciate receiving donations, and we are currently looking into those suggestions to ensure items will not be sold and will be handed directly to needy families.

The Andrea O'Donnell Children's Trust
We have a family Trust for our niece/cousin, Andrea O'Donnell. The focus of the charity is to help needy children with donations of clothes, books, and school needs. Though the Trust's thrift store in Pennsylvania has recently closed, we have received from them many boxes of clothes to sell at Little Monsters. The money that is available from the store “buying” the Trust's clothes, is available to help needy families for emergency clothes/shoes. There are two ways you can donate to the Trust.

A) Customers can transfer some or all of their store credit to the “Trust” account.
B) Customers can chosn to donate cash to be credited to the “Trust” account.

If you would like to do so, please speak to a sales associate privately. For more information on the Trust Andrea O'Donnell Children's Trust, please feel free to explore the links provided.

Transfer your store credit
We have a program where people are able to “transfer” their store credit so that a needy family might be able to purchase something of their choosing. For instance, if you move away from the area, consider transferring your store credit for another needy family's use. Or, if you sell items to us and then later decide you want to transfer your credit, it can be done after the fact. You can also transfer store credit to a friend or family member's account.

If you would like to transfer your store credit to another account, please speak to a sales associate privately.

Catmandu Carson City
Catmandu is the project of Carson City CARES. Catmandu is a non-profit cat adoption center located at 1829 Brown Street in Carson City, NV. It is a home-like, cage-free adoption shelter. They rely entirely on donations and the proceeds from fundraisers. Catmandu provides a comfortable and low-stress environment for cats in transition. The ultimate goal being a cat for every home and a home for every cat. We have a donation collection container for Catmandu on the counter at Little Monsters.

Carson City Little League
We have, in the past, sponsored a Carson City Little League team. We look forward to continuing our support of this and similar positive activities for children in the Carson Valley area.

Donations to local schools & senior citizens
We actively support schools that come to us for donations for a raffles and support requests that we advertise in their school publications or on school special event programs. Additionally, we have proudly supported the Carson City Senior Center Talent Show.

Please let us know if you have a favorite charity that would love to receive donations or if you know of a family in transition, homeless or in need of some help with a jacket, clothes or shoes for their little ones.

We do our best to be supportive of as many people and organizations as possible, however we are unable to participate with every event or sponsorship requested. We appreciate your understanding.

Direct Community Involvement:

Downtown Business Association
Little Monsters is a proud member of the Carson City Downtown Business Association. We participate in the Wine Walk the first Saturday of every month and look forward to meeting members of our community that we may not yet have had the opportunity to meet. We also look forward to supporting future community activities being held by the Downtown Business Association and meeting more new friends.

Military/Senior Discounts
Here at Little Monsters Children's Resale Shop we respect and appreciate the elderly members of our society and those who have honored our country through military service. As a thank you, we offer all seniors and military service men and women with a 10% discount on all purchases (excluding gift cards).
